Writing a book might be too big of a commitment for me to take on right now.

I'm making good progress building habits that I'm quite proud of, but I'm still 89-days of consistency away from feeling like my habits are solid.

I want to do my habits at least 100 days in a row.

My daily habits:

- Walk 10,000 steps
- Do push-ups & planks
- Post on my blog
- Upload a video to YouTube
- Share a photo carousel on Instagram
- Meditate for 15 minutes

As of right now, Sept 27th, 2026, I have completed each of these habits every day without missing a single habit on any day for 11 days in a row.

If I added "Write book for an hour" to my daily habits, I'd be one hard day away from breaking my streak and giving up on most–if not all–of my habits.

Unlikely, but it could happen.

I've seen me give up on habits before.

Eventually I'll write a book, but I'll write it when the time is write.

Hah! Funny typo.

If my story ideas excite me enough to compel me to write during my spare time, then that'll be great, but I won't commit to carving out daily book-writing time.

Someday though, once my core habits are super solid, then I'll be more confident in my ability to dedicate 1 to 2 hours per day to working on a novel–knowing that, even on hard days, my momentum would carry all of my habits through to completion.

That was cool though, seeing a story start to come to life in my mind as I imagined the time traveling Merlin story yesterday.

Stories are powerful!

And if I want to get better as a storyteller, technically I don't need to write a book.

That might actually be the worst place for me to start.

These blog posts could, in theory, be where I write and share daily stories.

I could limit my stories to 500 words maximum, which would force me to be concise.

It would also ensure that this practice remains manageable and fun.

After enough reps I could increase my maximum story word count to 600, 700, 800, 900, and then eventually 1,000 words.

Each of these mini-stories would be seedlings.

That's all that most of them would ever be, just a little story sprout.

These short stories could be unrelated to each other, or some of them could exist within the same story-world, playing out as episodes in a series, which could expand into a collection of interconnected short stories, or eventually a full scale novel.

That sounds fun!

I'm feeling this idea!

Look, some days it's hard for me to sit here at my laptop, trying to think of something insightful, helpful, or profound to write about.

Like, do I write about building habits or being creative or overcoming resistance or entrepreneurship?

I could...

Or what if I just make up stories to entertain myself and, in the process, also grow as a storyteller.

Omg.

What if I'm less of an educator and more of an entertainer?

I've never asked myself that before.

My track record, at least when it comes to business (escape room/mini golf), indicates that I might be a decent entertainer.

There's nothing indicating that I might be a decent educator.

I'd like to think I'd be a great educator, and that someday I could launch an online course and community and build an education business, but what if that's just not me?

What if, in my heart, I actually just want to entertain people?
