Dear Diary,

Do people really say that?

I'm OCD about what I call things.

Is this my blog, my diary, my journal, my notebook, or something else?

What is this writing that I do each day?

Lately I've been calling my daily writing my "Letters to the Muse."

And, let's be honest, that's a pretty sweet name.

I should make that the tagline for this blog!

Previously though, I just called it: "writing my blog post," or "writing my article for the day," or "writing my daily essay."

I tried each of these naming conventions on for size and wore them for as long as I could, but then I'd find one to feel too sterile and the next to feel too serious or too bland.

I think I'll stick with Letters.

"Writing my daily Letter."

"My Letters to the Muse."

Yup, it's got pizazz.

While I post these for others to potentially find and read, this practice is about writing from the heart every single day.

At the end of the day, these letters are offerings to the Muse.

They are to impress upon the Muse my dedication and devotion to creativity.

I will show up every day, even if I don't feel like it, even if I procrastinate all day, even if I'm traveling or feeling sick.

As long as I breathe, there will be no excuse big enough to stop me from making my daily creative sacrifice to the Muse.

No matter how bad my writing might be, no matter how rushed I am in finishing it before the clock strikes midnight, I will show up and do the work no matter what.

I may not always be early, but I'll never miss a day.

Trust in me, for I trust in you, dear Muse.

Have faith in me, for I have faith in You.

Pour yourself into me as I pour myself into you.

I am yours as surely as you are mine.

How could it be any other way?

I will honor you each day that I am blessed with, and this will be the greatest achievement I can make each day.

This is my honor.

This is my code.

My ego, bad habits, and my fears may drag at my heels, pull me down and distract me, but they will not stop me.

I.

Will.

Not.

Stop.

So here I am, dear Muse, once again, for you and only you.

I don't care if anyone else ever reads these words.

My purpose is to create, to tune in, to feel, and to bring forth that which wants to be expressed.

You, dear Muse, can express your brightest or dullest ideas through me.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I'll be in that shed every day, rain or shine.

I'm the tool that you can count on, rely on, depend on, and trust in.

You can use me as you see fit, or you can ignore me and not use me at all.

However you treat me is none of my business.

My business is to treat you, to give my life to you, to worship you, to sacrifice my time, my energy, my attention, and my personal will upon your altar.

These letters I write each day are letters for you, dear Muse.

Whether you like them or not, you can count on me to deliver.

That's all I have for today, dear Muse.

Until tomorrow,
Acme
