I was just reflecting on how I feel called to be an entertainer.

I thought my path was to be an educator, launch online courses, grow a big audience, and build a profitable business around it.

But what if, for now, I just wrote short stories every day?

I love this idea for two reasons, and I fear it for one.

(1) I love the idea of practicing creative writing every day. Over time I imagine I'd become a pretty good storyteller and would naturally start writing full novels.

(2) I love that it would allow me to play around in my imagination and pull characters and stories out from within to share with the world. Feels much more alive and engaging than trying to teach or build an education business.

But I fear not knowing what to write, or feeling like I have nothing to write about.

I fear that I might sit down to do my daily "creative writing," and just not find any creativity inside me.

I must remember that in the beginning, the goal isn't to write good.

The goal is to write consistently.

Consistent quantity leads to quality.

Another way to prevent blank-page-paralysis would be for me to start a story bank.

Throughout the day I can find and capture story ideas, snippets, scenes, plots, and whatever else tickles my imagination so that I have a reservoir from which I can pull ideas from and get straight to writing.

No staring at a blank page and having to come up with something from nothing every single day.

The list would give me a starting point and even if what I write totally sucks, which it will in the beginning, at least I exercised my creating writing for the day.

After I write about whatever idea I chose, I cross it off the list.

If my list ever runs dry, I can just do a brainstorm of 10 more story ideas.

Here, lemme do a story brainstorm right now:

1. Merlin time travels from 500 AD to 2026 AD.
2. Muggles vs Wizards world war.
3. The great K-9 mothership returns to Earth for the full dog invasion to begin. Turns out, dogs actually are smarter than humans and this was all part of their plan to rule the world, but my dog Daisy loves me too much and we work together to sabotage the MotherBitch's plans.
4. An electrical engineering enthusiast teenager accidentally invents antigravity technology and builds hovercrafts and other cool stuff, but risks the government taking everything and locking him away.
5. A peanut farmer and a strawberry grower fall in love and together they make peanut butter and jelly.
6. Tall, dark, and handsome man pursues his passion for video games and becomes a world class competitor, coach, and eSports franchise owner. Totally not about me.
7. Owner of a slaughterhouse has a moment of perfect spiritual enlightenment and realizes his entire operation is committing mass murder against sentient species all for the convenience and enjoyment of addicted consumers.
8. Polyglorp Fernibulus crash lands on Exodus III and falls in love with an upper-class Praxalorian princess.
9. Two grapes come to life and compete to see who is the crispier, sweeter grape.
10. A solar flare emits a new type of radiation that is harmless to biological life on Earth, but renders all adhesives, glues, and sticky substances completely inert. Sticky notes no longer work, tape no longer holds stuff, and anything that was being held together by any glue of any kind immediately comes apart.

Okay so coming up with those ideas was a little bit of a stretch, but it wasn't too hard.

I probably could have written another 10 if I really wanted to.

I don't have to come up with 10 ideas every day... but what if I did?

After 10 days, I'd have 100 story seedlings.

After 100 days, I'd have 1,000 story seedlings.

No, no, no.

I have enough daily habits on my plate that I'm trying to honor every single day.

I'm not gonna risk adding one more that could end up breaking the camel's back.

Will tomorrow be the first day I write and post a short story?

Stay tuned!
