I, Fernibulus Polyglorp, sat tall and proud upon my throne.

Or at least I did, for about a minute, before its sharp edges and hard surfaces had me stretching this way and that.

I hunched forward and stretched backward, feeling increasingly frustrated by each moment I had to sit upon the galaxy's most expensive and least comfortable chair.

The Temporal Throne.

What in the name of Time was this things made of? Klaxorian hypermantium?

Today was my coronation day.

This morning I was crowned Time King, and this is my reward, sitting on... this.

I just gotta sit here in pain and answer to the dignitaries sent by the most powerful leaders in all the solar systems in my inherited galactic empire.

*My galactic empire.*

How in Time's name did this happen?

No, don't think about it.

Too late.

I thought about it.

Now I'm even more uncomfortable.

I quickly grabbed the left side of the throne with both hands and used my unimpressive upper-body strength to rotate my torso, performing a spinal twist that bards will one day write songs of.

A series of spinal pops, popping in quick succession softly echoed through the silent chamber, followed by an inappropriately loud sigh of relief.

"*Hr-hhrmm.*" My newly appointed Galactic Advisor, Marmar cleared his throat and subtly nodded toward the man and lady standing before the throne.

"Oh right, sorry, what was the question?" I asked as I leaned back into this Time-forsaken throne, butt still hurting.

"No question, Your Timeliness. I am Geblux Lebru, diplomatic emissary of the Praxalorian Empire. I come bearing a celebratory tribute, a gift, in honor of Your Timeliness' ascent to Time King."

The girl took a half-step forward, pulling back her shawl as she slowly looked up and caught my eye.

My heart skipped a beat as I leaned forward.

Who was this beautiful pink-skinned young lady?

As if reading my mind, the emissary continued, "This is the youngest daughter of Emperor Praxalor. On behalf of the empire, this sacrifice is our offering to you, our Time King, our most revered God of Time."

Geblux reached forward and, in the blink of an eye, slit the throat of the Praxalorian Princess.

Pink blood violently burst forth from her neck, her eyes going wide as her hands tried to cover the wound.

She fell and hit the hard floor with a thud.

I, Time King Fernibulus Polyglorp, immediately stood up, compelled by a power unlike anything I had ever known, building in me, and released in a single word.

"NO!"

My roar blurred my vision, but as I blinked my vision back to normal, the sound I heard echoing back through the chamber was that of an inappropriately loud sigh of relief.

"*Hr-hhrmm.*" Marmar cleared his throat and subtly nodded toward the man and lady standing before the throne.

The murderer and the Praxalorian Princess.

There was still time.

I can save her.
