What are the odds that anyone will even read this? Super low. Exactly how I like it. No pressure to write a certain way. No pressure to deliver value to a big, diverse audience. Just me, my laptop, and my thoughts. But if there isn't an audience, why write? I'm writing to get better at writing. I'm writing to show up and build the habit of writing. I'm writing to find my voice. I'm writing to reveal what matters to me. I'm writing to show–to the Muse and the many ideas permeating the cognitive realm–that I am a devoted, loyal, and trustworthy artist. An artist they can trust to show up and do the work. With or without them. I'm writing to show myself that I'm a writer. I'm writing to plant seeds that I can rediscover in the future. Seeds that I can water and shine my light on over time. I'm writing to find my Inspiration. I'm writing to face my Resistance. They're two sides of the same coin, Inspiration and Resistance. The size and strength of our Resistance depends on the size and strength of our Inspiration. Big Inspiration = Big Resistance No Inspiration = No Resistance If an Inspiration feels wilding exciting to us, then our Resistance will feel equally frightening. Each time we feel Resistance–and we can only feel Resistance when there's some form of Inspiration that is trying to pull us in the right direction–we must cast a vote. We can do nothing and vote for Resistance or we can do the scary, effortful thing and vote for Inspiration. When we seek comfort, ease, or security and we vote to back away from the Resistance (living within the self-imposed cage of our comfort zone), then we are also backing away from our Inspiration. How we vote becomes a habit. Our habits becomes our identity. Our identity determines whether we live creatively or becomes creatures of comfort, seeking only to consume and numb the voice in our hearts that is trying to tell us that we could be so much more. So pay attention each day to ALL feelings of Inspiration and Resistance. We can never have one without the other. We can feel both Inspiration and Resistance at the same time, but usually there's some time-delay and we feel them separately, which is often confusing. That confusion usually leads to Resistance gaining the upper hand. We might wake up feeling Inspiration about some idea we just had, and maybe we take a small step or two in that direction today, and another tomorrow, but as the initial inspiration fades, we find ourselves judging ourselves, doubting what we're capable of, worried we might put all this time and effort and life into something and get absolutely nothing back in return, AKA Resistance. Or we might wake up and find ourselves feeling Resistance for no reason. ...but there's always a reason for Resistance, and that reason is Inspiration. Pay less attention to that Resistance. Seek out the Inspiration. It could just be hiding somewhere. Put down the Resistance and focus on finding and moving toward the Inspiration instead. Pay attention. Feeling Inspiration is a wonderful sign, just be mindful of Resistance that might try to slow or stop you. Feeling Resistance is a wonderful sign, it means there's Inspiration at your door that you can let in. Either feeling is a wonderful sign, because they point toward the same thing: living creatively. It means the Muse is knocking on your door. Answer it. Let Her in. Engage. Be moved by Her energy. Take a chance. Take a step. And then another. You're on to something. Repeat this process every day. Do you realize who you could become if you did that? We each have divine treasures buried within. And they're only buried an inch deep. A whole new world is within reach. You're right there. So is the Muse. So is God. LFG! Acme
